The Episcopal Healing Ministry Foundation

In 1964, a Joint Commission on the Ministry of Healing of which Mrs. Neal was secretary, called for the church to sponsor a special study devoted to how clergy can be prepared to exercise the ministry of healing, including the training of priests to teach, instruct, and prepare for the exercise of this vital ministry. The Foundation was established in 1987 as a 501 C 3 organization by The late Rev. Emily Gardiner Neal, The Rev. Canon Robert D. Gerhard, and The Rev. Canon George A. Hill along with members of the healing team at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Terrace Park, Ohio.  It is to this end that the foundation is dedicated to the ministry of healing of our Lord Jesus Christ, that it may be taught, proclaimed and preached under the authority of the church universal and to perpetuate Mrs. Neal's ministry. This goal was accomplished by holding five subsequent healing mission-conferences in Cincinnati for clergy, seminarians and parishioners from across the country.

Homilies & Mission Talks

The CD collection of homilies and mission talks by Mrs. Neal is one of a kind. Mrs. Neal bequeathed her personal library, the rights to her books, and her personal papers to the foundation. Her estate included most importantly 12 card file drawers of her personally typed and handwritten homilies and talks given in over 100 churches across the U.S., Canada, and Dominican Republic. These were written over a 30 year period from 1957 through 1989 on a 1930's typewriter on three by five note cards. These gems of belief, wisdom, and knowledge of the Healing Christ are now available for teaching or study for those who are interested in learning more about the ministry of healing.

Neal's Spiritual Ministry

The popularity of her first book A Reporter Finds God which had 15 printings, made her the most requested speaker to churches all over the country. Her successive books covered her spiritual journey and quest for more knowledge which she shared throughout her ministry; 12 years in Pittsburgh conducting weekly healing services at Calvary Church, 12 years in Cincinnati at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Terrace Park, Ohio, and the Community of The Transfiguration in Glendale, Ohio. In 1979 Mrs. Neal was ordained to the permanent diaconate by The Rt. Rev. Robert Appleyard of the Diocese of Pittsburgh which led her to participate in worship services as well at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Terrace Park, Ohio  and at St. Barnabus Episcopal Church in Montgomery, Ohio.
